Wizz Air, the fastest growing airline in Europe, is expanding its flight network in Lithuania. The company introduces a new flight from Palanga. Beginning next April, the airline will start operations from Palanga to Dortmund. The flights are scheduled to run twice a week, on Wednesdays and Sundays. Tickets for the upcoming flights are already available for purchase on the Wizz Air website or through the company’s mobile app. Ticket prices start from EUR 9.99* and include hand luggage measuring no more than 40 x 30 x 20 cm.

Located in the North Rhine-Westphalia, Dortmund is positioned right in the heart of the German industrial region, famous for its coal and steel industry. Today, the city is regarded as one of the key German high technology centres, which can also offer an exciting cultural and food experience.

In addition to this new route, Wizz Air has recently added two new destinations to its flight network from Lithuania. Wizz Air now offers flights from Vilnius to Lvov in Ukraine and from Kaunas to Turku in Finland.

“As we continue to develop our Lithuanian flight network, we are excited to announce the opening of our second route from Palanga. We believe this will be a great opportunity for the local tourism industry to attract visitors not only from the United Kingdom, but also German tourists, inviting them to visit a popular seaside resort by the Baltic Sea”, shares Andris Rado, Wizz Air’s Corporate Communications Manager.

It is planned to offer 26 thousand seats on this route throughout 2019. There is no doubt that the new Wizz Air route will bring benefits to the whole of Western Lithuania, including Klaipėda, the third largest city. Tourists wishing to visit the region will be able to take this comfortable flight without the need to travel to Vilnius, Kaunas or Riga.

“A direct connection with Germany is an extremely important and anticipated event for the entire Klaipėda Region, which, in pursuit of our common goal, we worked towards very hard. A flight to North Rhine-Westphalia, one of the strongest economic regions in Germany, is another step forward in spreading the message to the world about us and our potential and giving us the opportunity to form new and strengthen already existing cooperation and business ties, promote tourism and invite Germans to learn more about the Klaipėda Region”, says Vytautas Grubliauskas, the Mayor of Klaipėda and the President of Association Klaipėda Region.

“The new route will bring Klaipėda Region new cooperation opportunities with Germany. The route will not only strengthen the ties between the two countries, but also increase the flow of tourists to Western Lithuania. In addition, it will give our entrepreneurs an opportunity to take advantage of this connection and attract investments from the region, which generates more than one fifth of gross domestic product of the largest economy in Europe”, believes the Head of Lithuanian Airports Aviation Service Division Aurimas Stikliūnas.

In 2016, Wizz Air opened a new route from London Luton to Palanga, the summer capital of Lithuania. Since then, the company has flown more than 150,000 passengers from and to Palanga on this route.

Wizz Air currently offers 32 routes to 18 countries from all three Lithuanian airports including Vilnius, Kaunas and Palanga.
